This week in phonics we have been revising the 'ng' sound - in 'ring' or 'jungle'
We have also revised the 'sh' sound - in 'shop' or 'fish'
The children really enjoyed these Mr Thorne phonics video's. We even found out the sounds were in words that we had not realised they were in, such as 'kangaroo' and 'penguin'.
The video's are linked here, to enjoy again.
I've also put on links to 'Geraldine the giraffe's' videos on the sounds because FS2 found these very funny.

FS2 photography
In FS2 last week we went around school with Mrs Frisby looking for plants that are growing. We then used a digital camera to take photographs of the plants we found. We had to make sure we held the camera steady, looked at the viewing screen and pressed the button all at the same time! We then checked we liked the photograph we had taken by looking at the viewing screen again.
When we got back to class we wrote a sentence to describe what the flowers were like, that we had taken a photograph of.
Have a look at the slideshow to see red group's photographs and photographs of them taking a photo! You can also have a look at some of their super sentences.

Attendance!
This week every member of FS2 has come to school everyday!
We have had 100% attendance this week!
Miss Kitchen and Mrs Cameron are so pleased with us, for trying hard to come to school everyday. In Classopoly assembly this week Mrs Warner even gave us a special mention. It means next week we will get a role of the dice during Classopoly assembly.
We are on track for our 'Beat for a Treat' reward. So please try hard next week to come to school everyday to make sure we get it. We need to ask Mrs Warner or Miss Stevens when the treats will be happening.

BIG TALK NEWS
Mrs Cameron is trying something a little different for Big Talk on a Friday. Instead of setting homework for discussion at home on a specific topic, Mrs Cameron is using an interactive game on the interactive white board to generate discussion.
The children are given a starting sentence and then work in pairs to improve it to a superb sentence. This may involve adding WOW words (adjectives) or connectives to extend the sentence.
The children did this last Friday and really enjoyed it whilst being very engaged. We will continue this for the next few weeks, so don't be surprised if they are not coming home with 'Big Talk' homework. We will still be working hard on Big Talk in class on a Friday.
ANY discussion you have with your child about any subject will support them with class discussions and help develop their speaking and listening skills.
Thanks for your support

Cutting out carefully!
Joshua used the fine motor skills challenge table to practice his scissor skills. He cut out his favourite pictures very carefully, taking care not to cut into the picture. He then extended his learning by taking them to the DT area and making them into puppets. His idea was so good, lots of other children chose to do it too!
What can we do with a box of fabric?
Our construction area has had a basket of fabric added to it this week. Mrs Cameron wanted to know how we would use it to extend our learning and play in the construction area. We have used it to create an array of different things. It has been used to make garages, car parks, princess castles, houses, and today it became 'the giant's castle!'
As they were building it, Green group had a problem; the material kept slipping off from the top of the blocks. Millie and Zoe worked together to devise a solution to the problem. They used small blocks wedged in the gap of the big blocks, to hold the material down. Well done girls!

We love a challenge!
In FS2 we have several challenge tables. The children enjoy using these when they have completed their learning target in the area's of provision. The challenge tables change regularly to keep the children enthused and extend their learning. They can be literacy, Maths, phonic or science based or might be focused on helping them practice their fine motor skills.
Here Harry is writing a sentence about what he has done in the areas of the classroom, this morning. He is using our new chalkboard table!
On the Maths challenge table the children can make their own subtraction number sentences using some people and a bus. They put some people on the bus, count them, take some away and count how many they have left. They then record their number sentence on either a whiteboard or a post-it note. They enjoyed using this activity last week with an adult, so this week they are challenged to use it independently.
Here the challenge is to write a label for our garden centre objects.

Fab Fry-day!
Don't forget it's Fab Fry-day on Friday the 24th May!
Order your wonderful home-made breakfast by next Monday, 13/05/13!
It will then be served up by Miss Stevens and her amazing assistants on the 24th in two sittings; 8.10am or 8.30am.
It is always a lovely start to the day for the children, eating a special breakfast with their family and some of the staff. We hope you can all make it.

Everything's Growing in FS2!
Our theme this term is growth.
We have been learning about plants and what they need to grow.
Two weeks ago we planted sunflower seeds. Look at how well they've grown!
When everyone takes them home to plant them into larger pots we could have a competition. Everyone can take a photo of their sunflower in July and we can announce the winner of the tallest sunflower.
We also planted cress seeds but we decided to have an experiment. We planted some seeds and put them on the windowsill. We planted some more seeds and put them in a dark cupboard. We wanted to see how they might grow differently. This is the result. Why do you think one is white and yellow?
This week we have planted broad bean seeds. We wanted to see what the roots will look like when they grow so have put them in a glass jar rather than a pot of soil. I wonder if they will grow into a big enough plant to produce beans!

It's Time for Rhyme in FS2
In FS2 this week we are thinking about rhyme and rhyming words.
We enjoyed 'Green Eggs and Ham' by Dr Seuss today. After we had finished the story we changed the words at the end of a line, to make our own rhymes.
Tomorrow we will be discovering the rhymes in Hairy Maclary.
On Friday for Big Talk, we will look at the poem, 'Twinkle twinkle chocolate bar.'
This is the poem;
Twinkle twinkle chocolate bar
My dad drives a rusty car
Pull the starter,
Push the choke,
Off we go in a cloud of smoke
Twinkle twinkle chocolate bar
My dad drives a rusty car
Please comment and let me know which of the rhymes you've enjoyed the most this week and why.
I wonder if our quadblogging buddies have enjoyed any of these books. Please let us know if you have.
